What will we be doing?

This is one of the more common questions that we have been asked lately.  It is also one of the most difficult questions to answer.  Engineering Ministries International seeks to mobilize design professional to minister to the less fortunate in developing nations.  Design professionals for eMi typically means Architects, Surveyors and Engineers.  Many of the projects that are completed are hospitals, schools, orphanages, and clean water projects.  The skills of the staff professionals and volunteers are blended to produce designs and planning studies.

Once we are through all the planning and training and preparation that will go into the re-launch effort, Jon will be serving as a Project Leader/Engineer. In this role, Jon will have the opportunity to be involved with what God is doing in the lives of others in a few ways:

  • Supporting Christian workers, pastors, churches, and other non-profits who have a vision to help the poor and preach the Gospel of Christ.
  • Serving as a leader to the project teams that volunteer their time and resources.  For some of these design professionals this is their first view of what life outside the United States looks like.  There are great opportunities to encourage these men and women as they seek Gods direction in their lives.
  • Mentoring Interns - Throughout the year there will be at least two rotations of interns who will be coming to the Latin America office looking to expand their worldview, their technical capabilities and their spiritual life.
  • Darryl Anderson (surveyor) and I downloading data
  • Local Design Professionals - One of the purposes of the new Latin America office will be to reach out to the local design professional community.  There will be opportunities to learn from one another, and opportunities to introduce those professionals to the work that eMi does.
